I have just had the very very great misfortune to witness your so-called "Senior Analyst", Lawrence O'Donnell, virtually explode in a vitriolic and, frankly, unbalanced shouting tirade against a Mr. O'Neil of the Swiftboat group.
Mr. O'Donnell's behavior was extremely upsetting to me and I wish I had not been exposed to it. However, having been so exposed I feel this performance should not go un-responded to by a viewer so I am writing to express the feelings of deep outrage and sorrow this episode brought forth.
Irrespective of the merits of either of their points, O'Donnell's efforts to both insult the guest as well as shout down all of his responses was, from the perspective of this independent observer, obscene and more characteristic of a new form of "Brownshirts" than of a forum for reasoned debate and discussion of differing points of view. His repeated shouts of "Liar" and other obstructionist techniques were the equivalent of verbal Billy Clubs designed to prevent any response from being received by the viewer.
I have seen Mr. O'Donnell go similarly berserk on a couple of other occasions and, at first, I was surprised at his vehemence and irrationality since I had previously observed him to be reasonable and rational. His latest melt-down, on your show tonight has convinced me that my prior, initial impressions were in error and that this guy is seriously impaired.
My suggestion for Mr. O'Donnell is to take a liberal dose of Prozac, go to bed and stay off of my TV. My suggestion the management of MSNBC-TV is to get rid of this immature, undisciplined and unpleasant personality at your earliest opportunity.

Their lineup with Chris Matthews, Deborah Norville, and Keither Olberman is the worst on cable news. It appears they want to drag scarborough into the bottom of the barrel also by having Lawrence O"Donnell on as an analyst.

Online Write-In Absentee Ballot Offered for Overseas Voters By Donna Miles American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Oct. 22, 2004 — Deployed or stationed overseas and still waiting for your state absentee ballot to arrive in the mail? There's no need to sweat it out any more.
The online federal write-in absentee ballot gives U.S. citizens overseas who haven't yet received the absentee ballots they applied for the chance to vote in the upcoming elections, according to Polly Brunelli, director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
The Federal Voting Assistance Program announced the online ballot procedures Oct. 21.
Brunelli said the federal write-in absentee ballot has been used for the past decade. Demand is particularly high this year, she said, thanks for education efforts by the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
The program staff has pre-positioned the ballot forms at many overseas sites "so it would be readily available" to those who need it, Brunelli said. Forms also can be downloaded from the Federal Voting Assistance Program's Web site.
Brunelli emphasized that not everyone overseas can use the ballot. To do so, she said, they must meet three very specific conditions:
* be outside the United States, including APO/FPO addresses;
* have applied for a regular ballot early enough so that the request was received by the appropriate local election official at least 30 days before the election; and
* not have received the regular absentee ballot they requested from their state.
The federal write-in absentee ballot is used to vote for candidates for federal offices, including the president and vice president, U.S. senators and representatives, and delegates or resident commissioners to the Congress, in general elections.
Some states now allow servicemembers and other U.S. citizens overseas to use the ballot in elections other than general elections or for offices other than federal offices. Chapter 3 of the 2004-05 Voting Assistance Guide details specific state or territorial requirements.
When using the federal write-in absentee ballot, voters may electronically fill in the form before it is printed or print it and manually fill in the form. In either case, officials said, the voter must manually sign and date the ballot. Specific instructions for submitting the ballot are outlined on the Federal Voting Assistance Program Web site.
Forms can be mailed at no cost to the voter from APO and FPO addresses, as well as other addresses within the U.S. postal system, using postage-paid indicia printed onto the mailing envelope from the Federal Voting Assistance Program Web site.
Voters who receive their state ballot after submitting either version of the federal write-in absentee ballot should vote and submit their state ballot any time up to and including Election Day, Nov. 2, officials said. Officials advise them to note on the state ballot envelope that they also submitted a federal write-in absentee ballot.
For more information, contact the DoD Voting Information Center, which can be reached toll-free from 64 countries using the numbers listed on the Federal Voting Assistance Program site. The Voting Information Center provides recorded messages from candidates, as well as other information concerning elections, 24 hours a day.

I'm a registered independent and 20 year Army vet. I've tried to keep an open mind. However, this is the final straw. No more charade that the media is objective and independent. Very, very disturbing that any newsperson would act that way. More disturbing that they didn't cut him off. Was this really MSNBC's idea of appropriate journalistic behavior? He wasn't supposed to be on the show as a counterpoint to John O'Neill (although that still wouldn't excuse his behavior) but rather as an objective analyst. If MSNBC had any journalistic standards, they would have cut his mike and taken him off screen. That MSNBC did not take him off the speaks volumes. I have seen O'Donnell do this before, only under wholly different circumstances. It was during the 2000 campaign; he was on McLaughlin with the usual crew, including Eleanor Clift. The subject was Al Gore's "lockbox" for social security. Clift engaged in her usual screech about how this was Gore's great plan to save it. Unbelievably (considering his pedigree), O'Donnell argued with Clift and called everything about Gore's "lockbox" a "lie" and a "phony plan"; the two of them then engaged in a great screamfest before O'Donnell eventually shouted her down when McLaughlin finally called a halt. Based on this incident, and other seemingly objective subsequent comments by O'Donnell, I actually had some respect for him as a democrat and enjoyed his appearances on cable. For the record: I wrote my own evals when I was in the Navy in the late 80s. Believe me, it happens all the time. Whether or not Kerry's citations are written by him or somebody else, it's pretty much impossible to prove.
The thing is, this is the only thing these lefties are arguing. They never mention anything about his testimony to Congress, his negotiations with the enemy, the Winter Soldier stuff. This is what needs to be remembered here, people.

O'Donnell gave a disgusting performance on the McLaughin Group this week where he launched a tirade shouting that President Bush was totally responsible for not preventing 9/11. He seems to have forgotten that Bill Clinton had 7 years after the first WTC bombing to do something about that and at least once actually turned down the chance to get Osama bin Laden. At the time of the bombing I distinctly remember some expert saying that the bombers were trying to bring down the WTC and they'd be back to finish the job. Too bad Clinton didn't do something about that.
I find it very amusing that the only listings containing profanity come from the left. Well, I guess it's not so surprising after all. A cornered rat can't be expected to fight fair. Remember the "How Dare He" and "Betrayal" rants of Gore; the "I Know a Few States" performance by Dean; Sharpton at the Dem Convention; Goldberg at a Kerry campaign event, the Ditzy Twits at overseas concerts; Moore at...hell, just Moore; O'Donnel on Scarborough Country (sp?), and even the typically mild mannered Stewart on Crossfire and recent CSPAN covered events to name only a few (thankfully).
The whole degradation of issues-based debate into venomous discourse of late by both sides, but certainly most visibly by the Left, is so sad and wreaks of desperate frustration. It's as if these cited individuals and others have just resigned themselves to the cocooned belief that persuasion of impressionable minds en masse is directly corrolated to the volume of their voice or the repetition ad nauseum of the same, baseless and tired one-line arguments (i.e. Bush Lied). At this point, I'm just ready to cast my vote, slip into a blissful, media-free coma, and wake up on December 25 with a second Bush term under my Christmas tree.

FWIW...Look, I don't know how well some of the swiftvet accusations hold up... After all, there's not enough of Kerry's records out there to verify either way.
I do know this:
1) While the Kerry evals that _are_ available are not abominations in and of themselves, they are at best, lackluster. "Damned by faint praise" is the expression we used when I was in the USN, and the promotion recommendations are not the most exceptional. It worries me that these are the best Kerry is able to cherry-pick from his record.
2) At least one accusation of O'Niell has proven to hold water: the whole "Xmas in Cambodia" flap. IIRC Kerry has repeatedly, as a matter of public record, claimed that this was a life-altering turning point in his war experience, that hearing *PRESIDENT NIXON* on Christmas stating that there were no troops/ etc. in Cambdia whilst he was actually in Cambodia was "Seared" into his memory.
Nevermind where he was, NIXON WAS NOT EVEN PRESIDENT AT THE TIME!!!
3) If you're a reasonably smart guy, horsed up on the topic, and either in the right or fortunate to deal with an idiot who can't be self-consistent, it's far more effective to arrange for the guest to fall on ihs own sword and give him plenty of rope to hang himself (mixed metaphors, etc., I know). That behavior was beyond unprofessional.

Mr. O'Donnell's behavior was extremely upsetting to me and I wish I had not been exposed to it. However, having been so exposed I feel this performance should not go un-responded to by a viewer so I am writing to express the feelings of deep outrage and sorrow this episode brought forth.
Irrespective of the merits of either of their points, O'Donnell's efforts to both insult the guest as well as shout down all of his responses was, from the perspective of this independent observer, obscene and more characteristic of a new form of "Brownshirts" than of a forum for reasoned debate and discussion of differing points of view. His repeated shouts of "Liar" and other obstructionist techniques were the equivalent of verbal Billy Clubs designed to prevent any response from being received by the viewer.
I have seen Mr. O'Donnell go similarly berserk on a couple of other occasions and, at first, I was surprised at his vehemence and irrationality since I had previously observed him to be reasonable and rational. His latest melt-down, on your show tonight has convinced me that my prior, initial impressions were in error and that this guy is seriously impaired.

Their lineup with Chris Matthews, Deborah Norville, and Keither Olberman is the worst on cable news. It appears they want to drag scarborough into the bottom of the barrel also by having Lawrence O"Donnell on as an analyst.
Email them and let them know O"Donnell is not fit to be an analyst on ANY program. I let them know that although they may not care about my viewership, but their advertising sponsors care a lot.

Having witnessed this typically juvenile exchange between a Liberal and some one that Liberal doesn't see eye to eye with, I've sent a request to msnbctranscript@fdch.com and asked that Friday's transcripts of the mealy mouthed, smarmy, Lawrence O'Donnell who shamefully appeared on Scarborough Country's show hosted by Pat Buchanan.
O’Donnell really did not disappoint me as he appeared an inconsiderate, uvula flapping flummoxed liberal scapegrace, as he suffered from an obvious shameful misprision so prêt-à-porter for today’s liberal pundits. O’Donnell lost it and while going totally ballistic while indefensibly screaming, totally out of control his jejune and superfluous political pis aller "Liar, liar, you’re a liar", ad nauseam at the very cool, calm and very collected veteran naval veteran, John O'Neill.
Lawrence O’Donnell was ultra unprofessional and oh so typical of a liberal having total snaggletoothed political psychotic meltdown. He has absolutely no creditability and in my opinion should be shunned as a commentator until he acts in a more mature manner.

Perhaps I missed it, but has anyone made the point that OD's raving was not actually the picture of a man out of control, but of one who is calculating and has full consciousness of what he is doing. His anger and rage were staged to accomplish his purpose of drowning out the unanswerable truth--which makes him very devious and trained in deception as are most of the democratic talking heads.
Another of their trained deceptive behaviors appearing more often is to accuse the opponent of everything you are guilty of before they catch you and expose you to the american public (example voter fraud accusation).
Let's just hope the american public can see though this.
Unlike the democratic party the republicans are hoping for informed voters. The democrats are counting heavily on the ignorant and gullible.

Online Write-In Absentee Ballot Offered for Overseas Voters

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22, 2004 — Deployed or stationed overseas and still waiting for your state absentee ballot to arrive in the mail? There's no need to sweat it out any more.
The online federal write-in absentee ballot gives U.S. citizens overseas who haven't yet received the absentee ballots they applied for the chance to vote in the upcoming elections, according to Polly Brunelli, director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
The Federal Voting Assistance Program announced the online ballot procedures Oct. 21.
Brunelli said the federal write-in absentee ballot has been used for the past decade. Demand is particularly high this year, she said, thanks for education efforts by the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
The program staff has pre-positioned the ballot forms at many overseas sites "so it would be readily available" to those who need it, Brunelli said. Forms also can be downloaded from the Federal Voting Assistance Program's Web site.
Brunelli emphasized that not everyone overseas can use the ballot. To do so, she said, they must meet three very specific conditions:
* be outside the United States, including APO/FPO addresses;
* have applied for a regular ballot early enough so that the request was received by the appropriate local election official at least 30 days before the election; and
* not have received the regular absentee ballot they requested from their state.
The federal write-in absentee ballot is used to vote for candidates for federal offices, including the president and vice president, U.S. senators and representatives, and delegates or resident commissioners to the Congress, in general elections.
Some states now allow servicemembers and other U.S. citizens overseas to use the ballot in elections other than general elections or for offices other than federal offices. Chapter 3 of the 2004-05 Voting Assistance Guide details specific state or territorial requirements.
When using the federal write-in absentee ballot, voters may electronically fill in the form before it is printed or print it and manually fill in the form. In either case, officials said, the voter must manually sign and date the ballot. Specific instructions for submitting the ballot are outlined on the Federal Voting Assistance Program Web site.
Forms can be mailed at no cost to the voter from APO and FPO addresses, as well as other addresses within the U.S. postal system, using postage-paid indicia printed onto the mailing envelope from the Federal Voting Assistance Program Web site.
Voters who receive their state ballot after submitting either version of the federal write-in absentee ballot should vote and submit their state ballot any time up to and including Election Day, Nov. 2, officials said. Officials advise them to note on the state ballot envelope that they also submitted a federal write-in absentee ballot.
For more information, contact the DoD Voting Information Center, which can be reached toll-free from 64 countries using the numbers listed on the Federal Voting Assistance Program site. The Voting Information Center provides recorded messages from candidates, as well as other information concerning elections, 24 hours a day.
Servicemembers can also get help from unit voting assistance officers.

I'm a registered independent and 20 year Army vet. I've tried to keep an open mind. However, this is the final straw. No more charade that the media is objective and independent. Very, very disturbing that any newsperson would act that way. More disturbing that they didn't cut him off. Was this really MSNBC's idea of appropriate journalistic behavior? He wasn't supposed to be on the show as a counterpoint to John O'Neill (although that still wouldn't excuse his behavior) but rather as an objective analyst. If MSNBC had any journalistic standards, they would have cut his mike and taken him off screen. That MSNBC did not take him off the speaks volumes. He should, at a minimum, be suspended from the network. Really, really poor on his part and the network as a whole. Unbelievable......

Lawrence O'Donnell, Chris Matthews, Keith Olberman... MSNBC is really building a reputation for itself down the stretch.
The funniest thing is that the three of them to this date have still probably not read the books being discussed. All it takes is one weekend to read Kerry's book, his biography, and O'Neils book. I find it hard to take any opinion from a "political analyst", dont call them journalists, when they can not even take the time to inform themselves of the issues being discussed.
And as bad as O'Donnell and Matthew's outbursts are, watch one Olberman program. I would like to see the ratings numbers from Hardball and then the freefall for whatever Olberman calls his show.
And this is coming from a Democrat, and a regular MSNBC viewer.

I have seen O'Donnell do this before, only under wholly different circumstances. It was during the 2000 campaign; he was on McLaughlin with the usual crew, including Eleanor Clift. The subject was Al Gore's "lockbox" for social security. Clift engaged in her usual screech about how this was Gore's great plan to save it. Unbelievably (considering his pedigree), O'Donnell argued with Clift and called everything about Gore's "lockbox" a "lie" and a "phony plan"; the two of them then engaged in a great screamfest before O'Donnell eventually shouted her down when McLaughlin finally called a halt. Based on this incident, and other seemingly objective subsequent comments by O'Donnell, I actually had some respect for him as a democrat and enjoyed his appearances on cable. But this latest meltdown on Scarborough proves he is no more immune to liberal hysteria than the next lefty.

For the record: I wrote my own evals when I was in the Navy in the late 80s. Believe me, it happens all the time. Whether or not Kerry's citations are written by him or somebody else, it's pretty much impossible to prove.
The thing is, this is the only thing these lefties are arguing. They never mention anything about his testimony to Congress, his negotiations with the enemy, the Winter Soldier stuff. They're banking on yelling and complaining so loud on the other points the Swift Vets talk about that are relatively minor in hopes of us forgetting the real meat of their story: That John Kerry dishonored himself and his fellow servicemen by his conduct upon returning from the war. This is what needs to be remembered here, people.

O'Donnell gave a disgusting performance on the McLaughin Group this week where he launched a tirade shouting that President Bush was totally responsible for not preventing 9/11. He seems to have forgotten that Bill Clinton had 7 years after the first WTC bombing to do something about that and at least once actually turned down the chance to get Osama bin Laden. At the time of the bombing I distinctly remember some expert saying that the bombers were trying to bring down the WTC and they'd be back to finish the job. Too bad Clinton didn't do something about that.

I think we've witnessed a number of prominent members of the Left, especially among the chatting class, popping civility fuses and blowing emotional gaskets this year.
Remember the "How Dare He" and "Betrayal" rants of Gore; the "I Know a Few States" performance by Dean; Sharpton at the Dem Convention; Goldberg at a Kerry campaign event, the Ditzy Twits at overseas concerts; Moore at...hell, just Moore; O'Donnel on Scarborough Country (sp?), and even the typically mild mannered Stewart on Crossfire and recent CSPAN covered events to name only a few (thankfully).
The whole degradation of issues-based debate into venomous discourse of late by both sides, but certainly most visibly by the Left, is so sad and wreaks of desperate frustration. It's as if these cited individuals and others have just resigned themselves to the cocooned belief that persuasion of impressionable minds en masse is directly corrolated to the volume of their voice or the repetition ad nauseum of the same, baseless and tired one-line arguments (i.e. Bush Lied). At this point, I'm just ready to cast my vote, slip into a blissful, media-free coma, and wake up on December 25 with a second Bush term under my Christmas tree.

FWIW...Look, I don't know how well some of the swiftvet accusations hold up... After all, there's not enough of Kerry's records out there to verify either way.
I do know this:
1) While the Kerry evals that _are_ available are not abominations in and of themselves, they are at best, lackluster. "Damned by faint praise" is the expression we used when I was in the USN, and the promotion recommendations are not the most exceptional. It worries me that these are the best Kerry is able to cherry-pick from his record.
2) At least one accusation of O'Niell has proven to hold water: the whole "Xmas in Cambodia" flap. IIRC Kerry has repeatedly, as a matter of public record, claimed that this was a life-altering turning point in his war experience, that hearing *PRESIDENT NIXON* on Christmas stating that there were no troops/ etc. in Cambdia whilst he was actually in Cambodia was "Seared" into his memory.
Nevermind where he was, NIXON WAS NOT EVEN PRESIDENT AT THE TIME!!!
3) If you're a reasonably smart guy, horsed up on the topic, and either in the right or fortunate to deal with an idiot who can't be self-consistent, it's far more effective to arrange for the guest to fall on ihs own sword and give him plenty of rope to hang himself (mixed metaphors, etc., I know). That behavior was beyond unprofessional.

I'll agree with anyone who says O'Donnell was over the top and that his tone was unprofessional and excessively hostile, but only if they will concede that O'Reilly and Hannity can get just as bad, and frequently do.
As for the veracity of John O'Neill, I suppose that the reason that his version of the "truth" was irrevocably refuted by the U.S. Navy Bureau of Personnel was because of the well-known preponderance of liberals in the Navy.
