The man may be a "software designer" or whatever the title may be, but he knows nothing about Microsoft Word. One need merely include a space between a number the ordinal suffix following it to get around the autoformatting.
Additionally--and what makes his statement so pathetic--is that this 'trick' is obvious in "1 st" (19 May document) and "147 th" (twice in the 01 August document). Either he was not shown the documents or his attention to detail is rather lacking.

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong guy but I think this guy's a copier repairman or something like that.
